The Apprentice’s Calling

An Apprentice has been invited into The Arcanum for the sole purpose of personal enrichment through the practice of creative artistry. They are to work with their Master and their fellow Apprentices within their Cohort to discover their own artistic path towards mastery of their own.

Expectations of an Apprentice

Be ready and open to learn unexpected things

You may come into this just wanting to improve your art, but you will soon discover much more.

Be not alone

Yes, you will develop a personal relationship with your Master, but the real gold is in the other Apprentices in your Mastery Cohort. It is expected, and is in fact required that you cooperate with the other Apprentices to accomplish goals, challenges, and assignments. If you play this the right way, you may learn as much from your fellow Apprentices as your Master.

Take ownership of your learning and work with your Master to set goals.

Engage in the community that your Master develops around you. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it.

Know the Core Values of The Arcanum

Come to know the Core Values in your own way and notice how this evolves the more time you spend in The Arcanum.

Do more than the bare minimum to Level Up

You’ll see the criteria for Leveling Up, but remember you are doing this for your own personal art and your own personal self-discovery. It’s not just about Leveling Up, it’s about you. The system and the Master is there to guide you down your own path, but don’t become overly obsessed with “getting to the next level” that you lose sight of what it is all about.

Proactive look for opportunities to support and help your peer Apprentices in challenges and critiques.

Don’t just say “nice photo” to the your fellow Apprentices when working together on challenges. Engage the way you would like to be engaged.

Actively share your own expertise in the community through comments and posts of other relevant and helpful content.

It’s not a zero-sum game

We are all in this together, and the more you put into this, the more you will get out. You may well discover that you will learn more through active contribution than through passive consumption.

Be a Model Citizen

Stay focused on the key elements that move the whole group forward, together and stronger: Be respectful, enthusiastic, supportive, and motivating.

Have fun

We all have busy lives, and we’re all in here because of the open, creative, fun, and fantastical environment. Jump on in, the water’s warm! 🙂
