Time for a Refresh

New Masters are coming on board every week but they are having some issues finding their dream apprentices. Capture their attention by adding thumbnails of your images to the Art Examples section (don’t forget to keep updating them too).

Also make sure your social profile links work! Masters are very interested to see how you interact on social media and if a link goes nowhere, then they might very well move on to another applicant.

Don’t miss your opportunity!

Apprentice Spotlight

Wes Hardaker

Level 20 Apprentice

This week I’m doing a different style of Apprentice Spotlight; an interview. I sat down with Wes Hardaker, a level 20 apprentice, who recently graduated from Master Varina Patel’s cohort and we chatted about his experience so far and how his work had changed through his time in The Arcanum. We go through some images and delve into what happens after you receive the invitation to a cohort.

If you are wanting to know more about The Arcanum experience and how it affects your photography then this will be 20 minutes well spent.

Find out more about Wes Hardaker over at G+ or his website.

Meet the Master

Glenn Guy

Level 20 Master

Master Glenn Guy, agreed to sit down with me while I peppered him with questions about The Arcanum, Travel Photography and his new podcast. I hit him up for application tips and he took me on a trip around the world with his photographs.

Glenn describes himself as a Generalist, because travel photography involves landscapes, portraiture, street and a range of techniques. He talks about conquering the fear of approaching strangers for photos while on the road and provides some application tips as well.

With 30 years experience in the industry, Glenn’s podcast is an impressive collection of travel and general photography tips and tricks. Find out more in the video above.

The Founders' Files

It's what we do together that makes belonging matter

Happy New Year to every Applicant, Apprentice, Master, Hero and Team member of The Arcanum!

As I was celebrating the Holidays with my family and friends I wondered why being together was so important. Sounds cynical, right? I looked at everyone around the table or in the family room and thought "why is THIS so special?". Is it because I belong to a family or a group of friends? No. It's not special because of belonging. It's special because of what we experience together. And then it hit me in a flash. A quote from Brian Solis, an industry expert in online communities, "Community is much more than belonging to something; It’s about doing something together that makes belonging matter". It wasn't simply belonging to a family or a group of friends that mattered. It was what we did together. More importantly, what experiences we shared, that made the impact and memories.

This is the key role of the Community within The Arcanum - a nexus of Members sharing experiences that help one another reach our individual goals. It's the things we do and experience together that make being part of the Community matter.

So here are my Top 3 Things to Do Together while we're in The Arcanum to make it all matter.

   1. We ask for help when we need it. We offer help when we're asked.
   2. We "lean in" and engage with each other in a genuine and candid manner.
   3. We add value to what is created and shared by the Community.

2015 is shaping up to be one terrific year and I'm so delighted to be on this Grand Journey with all of you! Please don't hesitate to send us your feedback by emailing [email protected] You can also email me directly at [email protected] Thank You!
